Hard turning process usually was definited the work piece which hardness is above HRC45,the hardness of the typical parts will range between HRC58~HRC68.Hard turning can be used for many industries:Automotive,bearing,mold tool,machine and aerospace ect. There are also many materials can use hard turning ,such as bearing steel ,gear steel ,surfacing hardened steel,Nickel-based alloys,ect. In current times,quenching steel and Carburizing steel also begin to be used for hard turning.
Hard turning insert can realize “Turning instead of grinding”CBN insert can be used for hard turning instead of grinding,thus it will save the processing cost and the processing time ,so that improve the economic profit.
There are 3 kinds materials which can be used for hard turning: Cubic Boron Nitride(CBN),Ceramic and Carbide Alloy.The cutting tools choice need match with the processing efficiency and the processing costs.
1.For the work piece which need required strictly on the
dimension and roughness we need first to choose cubic boron nitride(CBN) insert.
2.For the work piece which tolerance is above 0.05mm,ceramic insert will be better choice.
3.For common workpiece without special requirement ,you can choose carbide insert.
For example,when interrupted turning gear,you need choose high content cbn insert,such as Halnn BN-S20 Solid CBN insert.Because BN-S20 CBN insert belongs to solid cbn insert,which has excellent chipping resistance and fracture resistance in a high temperature.And solid CBN insert also will have a good lifetime than common cbn insert.
