Wide grinding wheel grinding is a kind of high efficient grinding that improves grinding efficiency by enlarging polishing width, which is usually 50mm, while the polishing width of wide grinding wheels can reach 300mm. The width of the grinding wheels in flat surface grinding is 400mm, and the width of centerless grinding wheels can reach 800 to 1000mm. Because the width is larger, the grinding forces and grinding power are larger, and more heat will be produced during the grinding process. After a grinding wheel is molded and finished, it can guarantee the molding degree of workpieces. At the same time, crush grinding has a higher grinding efficiency than vertical reciprocating grinding. Since the width is larger, the major cantilever elongation rate will increase. To guarantee the workpieces' molding precision, the grinding wheel's hardness should be well-proportioned only in the peripheral direction, or the inhomogeneous grinding of the grinding wheel will relut in poor workpieces' precision and surface quality.

In summary, the wide grinding wheel is suitable for the grinding process of large workpieces, such as spline shaft, motor reel, twist drill, the drive shaft of automobiles and tractors. Adopting wide grinding wheels in the assembly line or production lines can help reduce the quantity of grinding machines and the floor space.
