Market Situation of Bauxite Imports in China in June

At the end of June, there is the data to show that China's imported bauxite inventory fell 1.5% than the preceding period, around 33 million tons, but is still  higher than the same period last year about 12.7%.

It is shown from the above picture, China's imported bauxite inventory continues to decline in the past two months. On the one hand, alumina plants return to normal production in Shandong, whose consumption for imported bauxite increases. According to the data, China's imports of bauxite have consumed about 5 million tons in June, with an increase of 8.7% than the preceding period. In Malaysia, on the other hand, bauxite mining ban still continues, and has extended to September 14.

At the end of last year, domestic alumina plants have already reserved a huge amount of imported bauxite inventories, so now, they are not in a hurry to prepare a large number of stock again, which makes imported bauxite prices lack of driving force. For example, the FOB price of 40% bauxites in Malaysia, is still around $26 per ton, and some offer about $27 to $28 / ton.
