Grinding process has three main functions:

For the base material, it is clear to clean the burr and oil dirt on the surface of the substrate; For the surface that has been cleaned the putty, it is generalely rough and needs to obtain smooth surface by sanding, so the grinding process can reduce roughness of the surface of workpieces; It can strengthen the coating adhesion as it is bad on the smooth surface, but it can enhance the mechanical adhesion of the coating after grinding.

There are three grinding methods and they are dry grinding, wet grinding and mechanical grinding.

A, Dry grinding: It needs to use sanding paper for grinding, which is suitable for hard and brittle lacquer. The disadvantage is that it will produce a lot of dust in the operation process, which will affect the environment health.

B, Wet grinding: Please make waterproof sandpaper dipped in water or suds for grinding. Wet grinding can reduce the grinding crack, improve the smoothness of coating, and save sand paper and energy. But we should pay attention after wet grinding: The water layer must be completely dry before we can apply the paint, or the paint layer easily get whitening. And the substrate with strong water imbibition is unfavorable for wet grinding.

C, Mechanical grinding: If it is in construction on a large area, mechanical grinding can be used in order to improve the work efficiency, , such as electric grinding machine, disc type or vibration type.

We should choose the materials in accordance with the technical requirements, and usually, we can select sanding paper according to the following rules: 180# - 240# sanding paper for the grinding of solid wood white body; 220# - 24 # sanding paper for the grinding of splint or primer; 320# - 400 # sanding paper for the grinding of flat primer; 600# - 800# sanding paper for a  final grinding of primer or finishing coat; 1500# - 2000# sanding paper for the  polishing and grinding of finishing coat.
