iAbrasive recently had an interview with Ouran, general manager of Dongguan Yuda Abrasives Technology Co., Ltd. that specializes in the exploration and production of abrasive products for more than 20 years. The company has been committed to develop the special profile products of coated abrasives, such as chunk flap wheel, hand sticks flap wheel, discs wheel, cloth wheel, hemp wheel, polishing wax, etc. Besides, Yuda is also China's largest manufacturer of full/semi automatic flap disc machine, which not only sells best in China but also very popular in overseas market.

"Compared to semi-automatic equipments, full automation costs higher. Those who dared not to try expensive full automatic machines may never know the benefits brought by them." Ou explained. "As labor costs a lot more than in the past, China coastal areas have suffered from labor shortage in recent years. Therefore automation is an inevitable trend. Companies that can't keep up with the trend are bound to be eliminated in the near future.

When it comes to independent R & D of new machine, Ou said frankly, "Because orders have multiplied that far exceeded supply ability, Yuda had to develop new machine to meet market demand. High costs prevented many companies from doing independent research, many of them would rather refuse new orders than put large amount of fund into R & D."

Different from traditional abrasives companies, Yuda has two interrelated markets: equipment and product. Although machine market is promising, abrasives market cannot be ignored. Many companies only target at one market so they know little about what customer really needs. "Each customer may have different demand to which we will adjust our product performance." Ou added, "Only by consistent improvement can we become better." 

In recent years China domestic market suffered depression, which make it difficult for abrasives manufacturers to survive. However, Ou says that Yuda has not been influenced by the recession. On the contrary, Yuda targets at Asia market and has a variety of abrasives products including specialties, which makes Yuda unique.

"Yuda has long focused on 'Quality & Reputation' and insisted on its own management idea. Although there may be many difficulties, Yuda will keep trying and never stop."
