Why Is the Abrasive Industry Developing at a Slow Pace?

Seen on the whole, currently, the gap between China's abrasive industry and the abrasive industry in Western countries is becoming smaller and smaller. China now possesses processing centers with advanced and complete equipments, five-axis linkage machine tools, and the new-generation nano super precision CNC machine tools, etc.. However, seen from the development of the abrasive industry in China, the gap does not seem to be much different.

1. The abrasives manufacturers in China have underestimated the situation. The world machine tool industry is developing at such a fast pace that it is in desperate need of high-performance abrasives as supporting products. According to iAbrasive, in foreign countries, almost all the grinding wheels of the grinding machine's have reached 120m/s in working speed, while China's domestic CBN grinding wheels' working speed is far from that figure. As a result, China rarely has any supporting products for imported machine tools.

2. Capital investment and technology input are insufficient. The benefits of a CNC grinding machine can only be embodied by adopting high-quality grinding wheels. Abrasive grain is the core material that helps grinding wheels work. However, vicious competition in the Chinese abrasive industry is so serious that the abrasive companies have little energy and funds to develop new technologies and new products, which has left some abrasive companies in China faced with bankruptcy. Only one-third of the companies are performing well.

3. The cost is at an all-time high. Some long-established enterprises provide measuring tools for testing machinery, the electronics industry and other industrial products. Many new products have received the approval and recognition of the public, which gained users' confidence in the domestic measuring instruments. The abrasives manufacturers in China have revealed that they will keep innovating to meet domestic market demand and prepare for international competition.
