Vehicle Maintenance: Guide to Selecting Buffing Compound

In the vehicle maintenance, we must pay attention to the selection for buffing compound. If you use some buffing compounds with bad quality, they may cause a series of problems.

A, Air-drying varnish and baking varnish, namely the lK with 2K varnish, whose surfaces both can make the polishing processing, but the buffing compounds they should use are different, because this kind of varnish contains different solvents. It may cause many problems if you get them wrong.

B, Buffing compound used for light color varnish and deep color varnish can not be mixed. If we use them wrong, the paint film will become darker or lighter, which will seriously affects the appearance.

C, Coarse buffing compound and fine buffing compound should be carefully distinguished. Rough buffing compound must be used firstly when polishing, and after the paint film becomes light, we can change with fine buffing compound. If we get them wrong, it will be a waste of buffing compound and can not meet ideal polishing effect.

D, We should distinguish some buffing compounds by hands or machines. The buffing compound for machines must be used with special polishing machine, while the buffing compound by hands can directly paint with polishing cloth by hand. If we get them wrong, it will take much time and also have no effect.

E, We should distinguish some buffing compounds used for pure color paint and metallic paint. Buffing compound used for metallic paint not only can increase the surface brightness, but also can make the flash effect of metals (or pearls) more clear.

F, Buffing compound used for paint film protection and mirror surface treatment should be distinguished. Buffing compound for mirror surface treatment is a kind of special buffing compound, whose protective effect is not that good compared with buffing compound used for paint film protection that contains many elements and can form a layer of protective film on the surface of the paint, against UV, acid rain, electrostatic dust, water damage, etc.

G, We also should distinguish products that contain silicon and do not contain silicon on the using range. The products containing silicon should be avoided as far as possible in the garage, because once the paint film is silicious, it is hard to deal with for paint repair.
