Use of Abrasives in Ceramic Sanitary Ware Products

Abrasives and Abrasive products are used in grinding , lapping, and polishing. Abrasive products have been widely used in machine manufacturing, metalworking industry, non-metallic industries, such as processing of ceramic, glass, and stone. The three major products classification involved in the abrasives industry are conventional abrasives and abrasive products, including fused alumina and silicon carbide, resin bonded abrasive products, ceramic bonded abrasive products, etc.; coated abrasives, abrasive paper, abrasive cloth, and abrasives sanding belts included; superhard materials, covering diamond products and CBN products. Grinding techniques are irreplaceable in mechanical working. Abrasive products are also used in ceramic sanitary ware industry.

Abrasives and abrasive products are used in the fire process of ceramic sanitary ware industry. The first usage is grinding, cutting, and lapping of finished products, the second usage is reprocessing of kiln furniture. The firing process of ceramic sanitary ware industry is a key step to the shaping of products. Some ceramic and sanitary ware companies recycle the waste kiln furniture to reduce costs. Usually the abrasive products used are synthetic diamond and grinding wheels.

Abrasives and abrasive products account for 5% to 10% the cost of the entire ceramic finished products. The new features of abrasives and abrasive products used in ceramic sanitary ware industry are threefold.

With international standards becoming more strict, the development space for relevant abrasives companies is narrowed. Since the processing techniques have been improved, ceramic sanitary ware companies will reduce unnecessary costs in products grinding and cutting as much as possible.

Although grinding and cutting of ceramic sanitary ware are remedial measures to ensure product quality and are indispensable, these products do harm to the environment and may even lead to damage in products. Therefore, ceramic and sanitary ware companies are suggested to make great efforts to improve product structure, process management, and reduce work load in grinding and cutting while meet customers' demand.

Faced with the pressure of energy saving and emission reduction, ceramic companies respond actively to the requirement of product reduction, thus abrasives and abrasive products used in ceramic sanitary ware have been reduced, but still exist.
