Filling material is an important part of super abrasives. Adding suitable amount of filling materials can not only greatly reduce the cost, but also obviously improve the mechanical strength and prolong the service life of abrasives products.
Filling materials have many types, and adding different kinds of filling materials will have different influence on super abrasives. According to the property and purposes, they can be divided into four categories:
A, The inert filler: be used in plastic process, to reduce the cost of abrasives products;
B, The active filler: plasticizing adsorption effect; to make the bonding ability of abrasive grains and the bond enhanced;
C, The reinforcing filler: such as glass fiber, carbon fiber, etc, to increase the bond strength;
D, The filler to reduce the bond strength, is suitable for manufacturing dressing toosl.
In resin super abrasives, filling materials are mainly used to improve heat resistance, hardness and strength of the bond. The ultimate goal is to improve the durability. There are many types of filling materials, and for resin diamond products, the filling materials used for phenolic resin binder include Cr2O3, ZnO and Cu powder; Polyimide binder : Cu powder, Zr, Co, CaCO3, etc. for dry grinding; quartz powder(SiO2), alumina (Al2O3), and other ceramic materials for wet grinding.
Experts study the influence of nanometer particles filling modification on resin molecular structure, heat resistance, impact resistance and rheological properties. The result shows that the modified structure is not affected, and can significantly improve the heat resistant properties of resin, and its decomposition temperature about 150 ℃. When the filling amount is 5 wt %, the impact strength of TiO2 modified resin can be increased to 231% of ordinary phenolic resin.
