Resin Viscosity's influence on Mechanical Properties of Abrasive Products

The viscosity of resin not only influences the performance of abrasive products manufacturing process, but also has a certain influence on the mechanical properties of abrasive products.

The powdered resin abrasive products also use resin as wetting agent to wet abrasive grains and dissolve resin powder, which have high mechanical strength. If people use resin with high viscosity, the wettability and the ability to dissolve resin powder will become weak, which is not conducive to mixed material, and at the same time, the mechanical strength of abrasive products is also reduced.

When choosing liquid resin for mixed material, people should firstly consider better mixing performance, and also should pay attention to its influence on strength and hardness of abrasive products at the same time.

Liquid resin used in liquid phenolic resin abrasive products is also used as bonding agent. If the viscosity is too high, it will affect the mixing performance and bond strength, so the liquid resin of abrasive products should be around 45 ~ 250s.

In the synthesis of phenolic resin, there are always a small part of phenol that do not participate in the reaction and are left in the liquid resin. This part of residual phenol will become free phenol.

In the resin liquid, the free phenol content should be controlled within 18%, so the tensile strength of abrasive products will be higher. Generally speaking, manufacturing powdered resin abrasive products should have the free phenol content less than 28%.
