Production Process of Sic Micro Powder

Silicon carbide (Sic), also known as carborundum, is a compound of silicon and carbon with chemical formula Sic. It occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite. Silicon carbide powder has been mass-produced since 1893 for use as an abrasive. Sic micro powder is one of the Sic product series. The article introduces the production process of Sic micro powder briefly in five steps.

1. Crushing & Sieving

Take Sic raw materials to crush by crushing machine and go through sieving process to pick out Sic abrasive grains whose diameter is not more than 2mm. Oval abrasive grains take up more than 80%, which need scouring to wipe out impurities and drying treatment.

2. Pulverizing

Use a pulverizer to smash dried Sic abrasive grains into Sic micro powder. During pulverizing process, the electric current of pulverizer is suggested to be 65-75A; fan flow 40-50 cubic meters per minute; rotating velocity of analytical engine is 400 to 600 per minute.

3. Classification

Use a turbo-type air classifier to classify Sic micro powder. 

4. Secondary Classification

Classify semi-finished products with impeller-type pulverizer.

5. Inspection
Inspect the Sic micro powder based on standard.
