Introduction and Matters Needing Attention of Plane Grinding

Plane grinding process is a way used to polish and process the surface of workpieces, which is a kind of abrasive machining process by using grinding wheel to remove chips and polish metal or nonmetal on the workpieces. By plane grinding, people can get delicate surface of workpieces.

Surface grinding machine is composed of grinding wheel, chuck, reciprocating or rotary table. The chuck needs to clamp the workpiece when machining, and magnet chuck is used for workpieces made of ferromagnetic materials, and for workpieces made of non- ferromagnetic and non-metallic material, it needs to use vacuum or mechanical clamping ways.

In the processing of non-ferromagnetic material workpieces, if only the magnetic chuck is available, people can use machine vise made of magnetic steel or cast iron. In the plane grinding process, the factors that need to consider are mainly: grinding wheel materials and workpiece materials.

Typical workpiece materials include cast iron and low carbon steel. These two kinds of materials are not easy to block grinding whee during the process. Other materials include aluminum, stainless steel, brass, plastic, etc. In the process of high temperature grinding, the materials are easy to weaken and erode, thus leading to loss of magnetic materials.

The precision of surface grinding machine mainly depends on the type of machine tools and applications, and most flat machine toosl can achieve the precision of ±0.002mm（0.0001”）.
