Diamond Industry Competition Analysis

Currently, the major countries producing synthetic diamond include America, South Africa, Ireland, Sweden, British, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, China, Japan, North Korea, India, nearly twenty countries. The global output of synthetic diamond is 700,000,000 carats to 1,000,000,000 carats. China's annual output is above 200,000,000 carats, ranking the first worldwide. The annual growth rate of world synthetic diamond is 8% to 15%.

General Electric Company, De Beers, and Winter are three groups of synthetic diamond manufacturers. They dominate the production technologies and consumer market of global synthetic diamond. 

GE company was the first to announce the synthetic method of diamond in 1955. Compared with the other two companies, GE is superior in advanced polycrystalline technologies. Its annual output can reach as high as 165,000,000 carats. 

De Beers synthesized the world's biggest gem-quality single crystal and industrial single crystal in 1987. In 1992, it created a world record by synthesized a single crystal diamond that weighed 39.4 carats. De Beers first launched SDA series saw blade and synthetic diamond. Which has become internationally recognized saw blade standard. 

Winter was engaged in the manufacture of diamond tools. In 1947, invested by German government and the NATO, Winter started to do research in synthetic diamond manufacturing technologies. Its unique manufacturing process and equipment made it superior in diamond quality, such as impurities content 2% to 3% and single production can reach 800 carats.

In 1963, China developed the first synthetic diamond. In 1966, synthetic diamond was put in industrial production, but the annual output was only 10,000 carats. After over three decades of development, so far, there are more than 600 synthetic diamond manufacturers in China, and their annual output is above 200,000,000 carats. In this sense, China has become a big manufacturing country of synthetic diamond. Most of China's synthetic diamond equipment is designed independently. Currently the major equipment is cubic press.
