Grinding wheels for polishing have been applied in cutting of stainless steel, non-ferrous metal, ordinary steel, and refractory materials. How to choose grinding wheels for stainless steel polishing?

There are five things we must know when choosing grinding wheels for stainless steel polishing. Firstly, we should make clear the abrasives sizes, which is usually divided into two types. 12# to 280# is called abrasive grains; W40 to W.05 is called micro powder. Secondly, XX# means the mesh number of the abrasive grains. WXX is the measurement, namely the actual average size of the abrasive grains. Thirdly, abrasive grains whose grit size is over 280# can sometimes be written as XXX# to XXXX#. W40 to W10 is approximate to 320# to 800#; W7 to W2.5 is approximate to 1000# to 3000#. In general, ordinary grinding wheels can reach W14 (600#) or so. Fourthly, the hardness of grinding wheels is based on different grinding demand. Rough grinding is suitable for soft grinding wheels, such as ZR. Fine grinding is suitable for harder grinding wheels, such as Z or ZY. Fifthly, for different materials, we should choose different polishing materials of grinding wheels. White fused alumina is suitable for cutters. If we want to achieve a better grinding effect, green silicon carbide is a good choice.
