The key factor to maximizing an abrasives grinding machine's performance is good dressing technique. Actually, one that has high-quality dressing tools and is a great master of dressing techniques can keep the abrasives grinding wheel's high grinding performance.

Dressing is a process that makes the superhard abrasive of a grinding wheel sharp. During the process, the bonding agent between the abrasive and the dull grinding wheel abrasive should be removed. Micro materials should also be removed through the air hole on a grinding wheel's surface to prevent the grinding force from being too strong, which may result in vibration and spare parts' getting surface burns.

Reshaping is a part of the preparation for an abrasive grinding wheel. Reshaping and dressing of an abrasive grinding wheel are usually done simultaneously. However, for superhard abrasive grinding wheels, the two processes are done separately. When using a superhard abrasive grinding wheel, reshaping is done with dressing tools or a contact roller, while dressing is used to employ a ceramic-bonded dressing bar.

Before a grinding wheel goes through dressing or reshaping, its mainshaft bearing should be kept under certain temperature to avoid spare parts' shape damage and grinding wheel dressing tool abrasion. We have to be careful with dressing tools because they are usually made of diamond materials that are hard, crisp and abrasion-resistant.

To save dressing time, proper dressing depth is necessary. If the dressing is too deep, high cutting temperature may reduce the dressing tool's service life. According to iAbrasive, trace dressing is the most appropriate method. The dressing tool's end face should contact the abrasive grinding wheel's surface.
