BRM Cup Brushes

Made in the USA supplier of surface finishing solutions, BRM is announcing a new technical article and product video about cup brushes. Designed for use with grinding tools and powered equipment, BRM cup brushes are available with metal wire or nylon abrasive filaments. Some rotary power brushes have a 5/8"-11 arbor hole or integral shaft for mounting.

In How to Select Cup Brushes, BRM explains how cup brush selection involves an understanding of brush types and product specifications. Wire cups are recommended for surface preparation and burr removal on large metal surfaces. Nylon abrasive cups are ideal for edge blending, light deburring, and general surface finishing. BRM’s new YouTube video provides pictures of various types of cup brushes.

Wire Cup Brushes

As BRM’s new technical article explains, buyers of wire cup brushes need to specify wire size and filament material. The larger the wire size and thickness, the more aggressive the brush. Stainless steel doesn’t leave residues that can oxidize, but these wire cups are less aggressive than carbon steel brushes. Wire size and material are important, but wire style is also important to consider.

The BRM Cup Brushes--Made in the USA video shows how industrial buyers can choose crimped or knotted brush tools. Knotted cup brushes are available in single row, double row, and cable twist designs. Single-row and double-row wire cups have filament ends that are loosely twisted and tufted. By contrast, wire cups with a cable twist have wider, tightly-twisted ends.

Nylon Abrasive Cup Brushes

As a full-line supplier of surface finishing solutions, BRM also offers cup brushes with aluminum oxide and silicon carbide abrasives in a variety of grit sizes. These abrasive nylon cups are non-reactive and provide an alternative to steel wire brushes for light deburring, edge blending, and general surface finishing.

As both the technical article and video explain, buyers can select brush tools with different abrasive types. Abrasive nylon cup brushes can be used in manual operations and with automated equipment, including CNC machinery. As with all power brushes, including wire cup brushes, maximum safe free speed (MSFS) in an important specification to consider.
