It’s a new type of abrasive that was first invented and applied in 1983 by US company 3M, since then a variety of ceramic aluminum oxides have been developed. US Norton SG abrasives and Germany Hermes CB abrasives are also this kind of material. For example, the cutting efficiency of 3M Cubitron brand abrasive belts made of ceramic aluminum oxide is 150 per cent higher than zirconia alumina when grinding nickel-clad stainless steel, and 71 per cent higher than the latter when grinding hammer. For SG abrasive belts, the metallometric removal amount is 5 times larger than brown aluminum oxide under 2758kPa (400psi) pressure.

Ceramic aluminum oxide is a long-lasting, tough, dense abrasive due to its micro structure. The extremely small micron size particles break off during grinding, producing multiple new cutting edges. As it stays sharp, especially when used in medium and high pressure operations; it cuts at a higher rate than other abrasives. Recommended for use on difficult operating materials, such as aeronautic alloy, carbon steels high nickel steel, etc.
