Waste Tire Can be used to Make Silicon Carbide Grinding Wheels

Tire has higher heat value and contains much volatile gas. After gasification, syngas that is rich in hydrogen gas and charcoal ash that contains high carbon is produced. These charcoal ash of grinding wheels have been used either in new tire or as reinforced filling materials.

So far, Europe produces 3,000,000 tons waste tire each year, 65% to 70% of which has been used as filling materials. Sabrina Portofina, a researcher from ENEA says that she is doing research into the pyrolysis process in order to get grinding wheel synthetic gas and solid materials from waste tire. Besides that, the TyGRE project group of EU is discussing effective approach to convert waste tire into silicon carbide grinding wheels and fuel.
