The biggest synthetic diamond was born in the U.S. after seven decades of cultivation. Born in a laboratory, the synthetic diamond is 3.04 carats and is difficult to be differentiated from natural diamond. Synthetic diamond possesses the same optical properties, physical properties, and chemical properties with lower price.

It only takes 6 to 12 weeks for synthetic diamond manufacture. Put carbon seed into a vacuum chamber and spray gas with hydrogen and methane. Weeks later, the seed grows into hard stone that can be grinded into diamond. Synthetic diamond and natural diamond can only be differentiated under special microscope and ultraviolet rays. Shortage of natural resources resulted in increase in diamond's price by 75% in 2009, and it is expected to rise by 5% in the nest decade.
