Smelting Method of Brown Fused Alumna

Brown fused alumna’s smelting belongs to ore-arc furnace smelting; there are three main kinds of smelting methods: fixed furnace clinker, dumping of smelting furnace and streaming. Because the latter one requires huge investment, the first two methods are mostly adopted in our country now.

1.Corundum produced through the dumping of smelting furnace is characterized by its many crystallization aggregations, small crystal size and high glass phase with distribution on the grain boundary, so it is less tough but very fragile, easy to fall off but with good compactness, which all make it suitable for the coated abrasives and refractory materials.

2.Corundum produced by fixed furnace clinker is characterized by its few crystallization aggregations, big crystal size and little glassiness, so it is less brittle, but tougher and wearable, serving as the main material in manufacturing coated abrasives.

However, in recent years, the quality of alumina used in smelting brown corundum declined badly, especially the block quality is difficult to reach the quality requirements of downstream products, so its manufacturing and subsequent processing become more and more important.
