Russia's Diamond Import & Export Situation in the First Half of 2014

According to TASS, the Ministry of Finance of Russia revealed that Russia has exported 1,979 carat of diamond in the first half of 2014. The total value was $25 billion, which increased 8% compared with the same period last year.

According to the Information Telegraphic Agency of Russia-TASS, the Ministry of Finance of Russia revealed that Russia has exported 1,979 carat of diamond in the first half of 2014. The total value was $25 billion, which increased 8% compared with the same period last year. The major exportation countries are Belgium, India, and UAE (United Arab Emirates). The import was 11,000 carats, which declined substantially; the total value was $28 million.

According to the statistics of the Russian Ministry of Finance, in the second quarter of 2014, Russia's diamond export volume reached 7,778,000 carats, which was a decline of 7.7% on year-on-year basis. Currently, ALROSA, the leader in the world diamond mining industry as well as a Russian state-controlled diamond mining company, has controlled 99% of Russia's diamond exploitation, its exploitation yield in the second quarter of 2014 was 842.6 carats. Belgium is the biggest importer of Russia's diamonds. Its import volume in the second quarter of 2014 was 4,638,000 carat, the value being approximately $700 million.
