India's Polished Diamond Exports Fell 2.2% in June

India's polished diamond exports fell 2.2 percent year on year to $1.854 billion in June, according to provisional data from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Trading volume fell 6.8 percent to 2.626 million carats.

India's polished diamond exports fell 2.2 percent year on year to $1.854 billion in June, according to provisional data from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Trading volume fell 6.8 percent to 2.626 million carats. Polished imports contracted 63.8 percent to $234 million, leaving net exports of $1.614 billion compared with $807 million one year earlier.

Rough diamond imports declined 10.7 percent to $1.509 billion and rough exports slipped 1.2 percent to $102.5 million, leaving net imports down 5.3 percent to $1.407 billion. India's net diamond account in June rose to a healthy $207 million compared with a deficit of $678 million in June 2014.

Finished synthetic diamond exports in June jumped 58.1 percent to $9.8 million. Rough synthetic imports climbed 2 percent to $3.1 million and rough synthetic exports rose 11.9 percent to $5.6 million.

During the first half of 2015,  India's natural polished diamond exports increased 9.4 percent to $11.072 billion, while polished imports fell 41.9 percent to $1.957 billion, leaving next exports up 34.9 percent to $9.115 billion. Rough imports fell 17.9 percent $7.628 billion and rough exports declined 12.4 percent to $684 million, leaving net imports down 18.4 percent $6.944 billion. India's net diamond account surged to $2.171 billion compared with a deficit of $1.753 billion in the first six months of 2014.
