A major diamond industry trade association has re-issued its call for unity among all affected parties and a concerted effort to fight the growing proliferation of synthetic diamonds in the guise of natural diamonds. In a press release, the Diamond Manufacturers and Importers Association of America said that it is in continuous communication with other diamond industry organizations and with federal law enforcement officials from various agencies in its attempts to quash diamond fraud.

DMIA president Ronnie VanderLinden said that the organization is prepared to host a conference in New York City that would deal with the issue of synthetic diamond fraud. The original DMIA letter from May 2012, which was penned by then-DMIA president Ronald J. Friedman, used strong language to demand the industry unite, take responsibility and demand that the perpetrators of these frauds be punished.
