The Poconos is best known as a tourist destination but, there are many small and large businesses that make the region shine and foster economic growth.

One major player is Weiler Corp. in Cresco, a manufacturer of power brushes and coated, bonded and non-woven abrasives for surface finishing, deburring, grinding and cleaning.

The CEO behind the brand bears the same name, Chris Weiler.

Weiler started in product management outside the family business before coming on board 18 years ago. He worked his way through a number of sales, marketing and general management positions before taking the helm of the 350-employee Monroe County company.

“My primary role is developing the strategic direction for the business and defining the operational priorities, leadership culture and investment opportunities for the business,” Weiler said. “I rely heavily on a team of talented individuals to help me with this work.”

Dedicated to the community and helping grow the local economy, Weiler is one of the most influential businesspeople in the Greater Lehigh Valley.

“At Weiler, we talk about our key stakeholders as the C’s: customer, co-worker and community,” Weiler said. “... Our involvement with the local business community is primarily focused on being a strong local corporate citizen.”

GLOBAL EXPANSION

Weiler said his guiding philosophy is simple in that he is in business to help customers be more competitive and profitable.

“We are evaluated on the performance of our products, knowledge and service. … We can be easily replaced if we are not considered the best partner for our customers,” he said.

One of Weiler’s most notable accomplishments has been developing a global footprint. The company made acquisitions in Brazil and Europe and has tripled its revenue since 2009.

He said he’s excited about the opportunities and that the company plans to continue to invest in attractive markets, channels and geographies.

SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR

And while it’s clear that the company has been growing, Weiler said the measure of real success comes from whether the acquisitions create synergies that contribute to the growth of the core business.

Weiler was awarded with supplier-of-the-year honors in 2016 from two major customers and a runner-up honor from a third.

“This is the only proof I need to feel confident Weiler is focused on the right things and will continue to grow,” he said.

WELLNESS CENTER PLANNED

Weiler said throughout 2017, the company will continue to “sharpen the saw” on the elements of its strategy to improve.

He said some major projects this year include expanding the sale of products in Europe, launching new products in the United States and opening a wellness center in Cresco in early summer.

“These are all important elements to support our vision as a market leader with customers and being a great place to work and grow,” he said. “I am excited for the future at Weiler.”
