Introduction:
The green Silicon Carbide is obtained by the use of high purity materials. Therefore green coloured SiC is slightly purer and its abrasive property varies slightly from black SiC.
The fabricated material is purified, milled and classified according to the quality and grain size.

Application:
1. GRINDING TOOLS
For the production of grinding tools the SiC of higher purity (contents of SiC higher than 98%) is used. For the usage the shape of grain and the bulk density is also important. SiC classified according to FEPA F or P norm is currently used (the USA – ASTM, Far East – JIS). To compare the norms, please, see NORMS.
2. REFRACTORY MATERIALS
A whole scale of qualities of SiC is used – from materials with contents of 70% SiC to materials with contents of SiC higher than 99%. For modern refractory materials the cubic shape of grain is important for the achievement of high specific gravity of refractory products. The following classification is used:
- metric, e. g. 0 –1 mm; 1 – 3 mm; 0.5 – 1 mm; etc.
- derived from FEPA: 14/24; 30/60; 30/90; 100f;
- minus material: -100 MESH; -200 MESH; -400 MESH; etc.
3. TECHNICAL CERAMICS
In this area SiC of the highest quality is used, the content of SiC is higher than 99%. SiC according to FEPA (F240; F500; F1200) is mainly used and ultra fine SiC materials with big specific surface (most often 10 – 15 m2/g).
