Unconventional Uses of Super Abrasives Grinding Wheel

Many people think that diamond and iron group elements both have chemical inertness, so diamond grinding wheel is not suitable for the grinding grey cast iron type artifacts, but this kind of situation only happens under high temperature. For example, when using diamond grinding wheel for the grinding, the diamond will be in air oxidation when the temperature reaches 650 ℃ and will be graphitized when it reaches 700 ℃ ~ 800 ℃. Under low temperature, these materials will not react.

Therefore, if we can make appropriate grinding speed and adopt wet grinding method, and at the same time, supply sufficient grinding fluid, diamond grinding wheel can be used for grinding castings, which has been confirmed in the production practice. When using wet grinding, the grinding ratio (9600) of diamond grinding wheel for grinding grey cast iron is much taller than the grinding ratio (2700) of CBN grinding wheel for grinding gray cast iron.

People generally think that CBN grinding wheel is not suitable for grinding low carbon steel and other soft materials, because the wear debris generated is easy to make grinding wheel blocked. But the current research thinks that ceramic bond CBN grinding wheel can take certain linear velocity to form a tiny wear debris, and then people can remove them by the high-pressure spraying grinding fluid or offer sufficient grinding fluid to prevent wheel blockage.

Therefore, CBN grinding wheel can be used for grinding low carbon steel (whose hardness is greater than 30 HRC) and other soft materials. However, CBN grinding wheel can not grind all kinds of materials effectively. Usually it is not suitable for grinding hard alloy and assembling parts of hard alloy and steel, but if you use diamond grinding wheel, it will give better effect.
