Siberian Diamond Mine Landslide, Ecological Destruction Questioned Again

On December 2, the Associated Press reported that local officials from Yakut, east Siberian, Russian, said that there is a mine in their region that occurred the landslide last weekend, blocking the road nearby, and demaging large area of pylons. Fortunately, no people were killed in the incident. This diamond mine landslide has caused the widespread attention, and the destruction for ecological environment caused by mining natural diamonds has also been widely questioned again.

It is reported that Yakutia industry said the mountain near the diamond mine occurred the landslide suddenly and the pouring sand blocked the road and also damaged nearby pylons.

According to the survey of the local government department, in the process of mining the diamond mine, people digged out a lot of sand, and abandoned gravel pile on the mine. But recently, the mine workers have carried on the exploration to the sand again, and may be in this process, the moisture went into the gravel pile, so until the coming of night and under a lower temperature, the humidity is freezed, which eventually led to the landslipe of sand.

It is reported that authorities have asked the diamond mine holders to construct service road near the highway that is blocked, for the convenience of passing vehicles. The destruction for ecological environment by mining natural diamond has been widely questioned again.
