Shi Huijiu - a Significant Figure to Dongfeng Abrasives

Yichuan is a famous resort in Luoyang, Henan Province, China. It is also one of the important abrasives manufacturing base in China. Early in the preliminary period of the reform and opening up, township enterprises emerged and many companies started to set foot in the abrasives manufacturing industry. 

At the beginning of 1980s, Yichuan's abrasives began to export to foreign countries. With the development of China's industry, demand for coated abrasive grains began to increase gradually. Shi Huijiu, an engineer of the abrasives industry, kept that in mind. He consulted a Korean businessman to figure out whether the company he worked for could manufacture coated abrasive grains. The businessman answered, "Coated abrasive grains have very strict standard over bulk density, grit sizes, and purity, especially the inspection over grit composition of the products. Since China has to import necessary equipment and device, which are very expensive, I am afraid to say that in terms of your company scale and strength, you are not capable of reaching the standard." However, Shi never held back. He explained his assumption and the desire to learn. Finally, the Korean businessman gave him some samples of coated abrasive grains products. Shi was very indebted that he analyzed and tested the sample and finally decided to manufacture P sand. However, the company didn't approve his suggestion at first due to the fact that the project called for large amount of investment and was risky.

In May 2000, Shi was hired by Yichuan Dongfeng Abrasives Co., Ltd. as deputy general manager who was in charge of techniques and manufacture of coated abrasive grains. The favorable market trend and capital advantage of Dongfeng abrasives provided an ideal working condition for Shi, who began his ideal for manufacturing P sand. Shi had been engaging himself in the manufacture, technique management, grit inspection, and equipment maintenance of coated abrasive grains. To grasp production techniques of P sand, he made full use of his spare time to do research. His effort finally paid off.

During work, Shi was strict and cautious. Strict control over technique management and product quality management, continuous innovation and improved professional technological level led to the success. At the same time, he also transformed and upgraded the production equipment and great importance had been attached to environmental protection. What's more, Shi organized nearly one hundred standards formulation for P sand products. In 2013, he took responsibility of research of resin bonded abrasives products, which had improved the stability and homogeneity of grit composition, reduced work output, improved production efficiency, and achieved a series of standards in terms of choice of raw materials, storage, mix, etc. Currently, the coated abrasive grains production line has been used in grinding wheels manufacture in Yichuan Dongfeng Abrasives Co., Ltd.
