Experts from Siberian Physics and Materials Research Institute and Tomsk State University in Russia developed a kind of ceramic material that can tolerate extreme temperature.

The research results will be firstly used in the aerospace field.  It is a multilayer ceramic structure made of ceramic mixture based on silicon carbide and zirconium boride, which can improve the temperature of jet engine combustion chamber, and also have great heat insulation effect when the spacecraft goes into the atmosphere, or be used in the manufacture of sensor protective cover measuring the engine temperature.

Developers will work with Russia's space agency, and conduct the tolerance test about ceramic specimens with 2200 ℃ plasma jet. If the material can withstand about 20 seconds, it can prove that the development direction is correct. Scientists believe that the material will be also able to stand the test of 3000 ℃.
