Amid growing concern of the undisclosed mixing of lab-grown diamonds in natural diamond parcles around the world, the market is flooded with the synthetic diamond detection equipment. Apart from the gemological laboratories and diamond equipment manufacturers, the world's leading diamond mining companies have also joined in the space to market the state-of-the-art synthetic diamond detection equipment manufactured in-house.

After the world's largest De Beers group, Russia's Alrosa, world's biggest diamond mining company, has partnered with a Russian federal institution to produce synthetic-detection devices, which the miner intends to start selling next year.

The undisclosed mixing of synthetic diamonds was first discovered from Mumbai by a leading gemological diamond laboratory. It caught the attention of the global diamond consumers regarding the authenticity of the natural diamonds they are buying from the retail shops.

The mixing of synthetic with natural diamonds is done in the small sizes including Melee and Stars, manufactured largely in the world's biggest diamond cutting and polishing centre in Surat. As the laboratory testing of the small-sized stones is time consuming and requires a lot of expenses, the diamond miners invented equipments to detect the stones in lots.

The contraptions sift out polished diamonds that originate from lab-grown or treated stones or from simulants such as cubic zirconia or moissanite.

ALROSA has developed the equipment in conjunction with a federal body, the Technological Institute for Superhard and Novel Carbon Materials.

The devices have two buttons - one to turn on the power and the other to switch between English and Russia, implying simplicity for users.

The machine weigh less than 1.5 kilograms and can be plugged into a USB port or the mains at 22 volts or operated using a smartphone battery.among the diamond jewellery consumers around the world.
