Overview of Polishing Methods for Stainless Steel

Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and good weldability, which has already been used maturely in various industrial fields. At the same time, the polishing and processing for different stainless steel can make the surface with different surface roughness, which greatly improves the appearance of stainless steel. They become more beautiful, and increase the attraction for people.

Stainless steel polishing is common operation in the production. Each manufacturer or polishing factory of stainless steel will polish and process stainless steel, and they adopt different methods for stainless steel surface polishing. And these methods are as follows:

Polishing material abrasive paper polishing: Put stainless steel workpiece on a table or other platforms, and use human power to polish for stainless steel workpiece with coarse and fine sand paper. This polishing method is so intertwined with operators' skill. If the operator skill is high, the result will be better. But because the polishing speed is low, it is out of the question to get the same grades of surface roughness.

Cotton wheel burnt-on sand polishing: Cotton wheel burnt-on sand means this kind of polishing by using cotton wheel to bond abrasive materials. In the past, it is the most common method of polishing stainless steel. But it needs high labor intensity, and the working environment is bad. The workshop workers often need to wear face mask to protect themselves.

Pneumatic grinder stainless steel polishing: Please install the grinding and polishing wheel on the pneumatic grinder in the production workshop, and the polishing area should be under 1 square meters.(Note: The limit lines of grinding and polishing wheel speed should match the pneumatic grinder, otherwise the safety accident will happen.)

Angle grinder polishing: operators take the grinder, install 120 or 220 PVA on it and then polish workpieces. Sometimes, we need to install ordinary resin angle grinding piece for coarse grinding before stainless steel polishing. Or we can use felt wheel for polishing again in order to gain the brighter surface.

Grinding machine polishing: Please install PVA wheel on surface grinding machine, and select suitable workpiece speed, radial feeding and grinding wheel speed for polishing stainless steel workpieces. And high gloss surface quality can be obtained.

The stainless steel polishing methods listed above all have their advantages in special stainless steel polishing. You can use a variety of machines and tools, and all kinds of metal polishing materials. The disunity between special stainless steel products and workpieces, has created a variety of polishing methods for stainless steel.
