Scholars of Novosibirsk have recently invented a unique superhard material with special structure natural diamond. The new invention of the specialists has increased the service life of cutting tools and drilling tools.

Experiments show that the product made by the new material is 19 times superior in performance compared with synthetic diamond and similar products made of synthetic diamond and hard alloy compound. The new material can guarantee the cutting velocity at over 140 meters per minute. So far, any known materials can achieve such an effect except for in Russia where special diamond that can develop such alloy with unique properties. The material is not gemstone for jewelry, but micro diamond. A researcher from the Institute of Geology and Minerals of Russian Academy of Sciences say that the micro diamond can only be found at the meteor crater in Yakudiya.

According to the researcher, the meteor crater might be formed about 36,000,000 years ago. The celestial body hit against a rock containing much graphene, which melted under the huge pressure and the high temperature and turned into diamond with special structure.

Specialists say that diamond content used for technology is much higher than other precious diamond in the meteor crater. Before 1980s, people had exploited the special diamond, but the exploitation stopped, most people would rather build up synthetic diamond factories. However, scholars of Novosibirsk have not only found out the natural diamond at the meteor crater in Yakudiya, but also invented unparalleled material based on the finding.

The secret of the new technology is that adding certain material to the diamond powder and conduct high temperature sintering. For example, mix diamond powder with cobalt and sand, and conduct high temperature sintering under 100,000 barometric pressure and 2000 degrees centigrade installations. The outcome is the original material for making cutting tools and drill bits with high performance.

Scientists point out that the material is of vital importance for the machine building industry and the mining industry, especially for exploitation of shale gas. The working conditions are complicated that the expensive drilling tools will be scrapped soon. While the new material can prolong the service life of drill bits in that it contains superhard composition. The new material had not been launched yet.
