A biotechnology company--Bikankta invested by Y Combination has recently introduced a fluorescent nano diamond that is capable of diagnosing and curbing the spread of cancer. The technology is invented by Ambika Bumb, a professor who has got a Doctor's degree of Bioengineering from Oxford.

During Ambika Bumb studied in Oxford for post-doctoral degree, she took part in the scholarship project of American National Institutes of Health (NIH), during which she discovered that at present cancer diagnosis approach is limited that cannot check out small tumors and separate tumor cells. If not checked out in time, the tumor cells will lead to cancer cells spread to other parts of human body. Besides, Bumb pointed out some restrictions of other technology to diagnose cancer. For instance, the core material of quantum dot is cadmium selenide, cadmium sulfide and zinc sulfide, all of which are toxic.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), in the nest two decades global cancer morbidity is to increase 57%. If no new diagnosis methods are developed, unnecessary death resulted from small tumors or separate sells will be inevitable.

New method that can check out potential cancer cells from the source is in great demand, which has brought 350 hundred million dollars for optical imaging reagent market. Namely, better fluorochrome, nano diamond and all that can luminous matters within human body have huge market potential. According to American BCC Research, the market is to hit 50 hundred million till 2017.

Nano diamond has solved the problem. Bumb has discovered that diamond dust can deliver fluorescence that has reflection effect and throw light upon any type of abnormal molecules. The breakthrough is unparalleled.
