The upcoming annual meeting of the World Diamond Council will include the presence of high ranking government officials from both the global south and the global north. Representatives of Zimbabwe, South Africa and the United States will be attending the WDC's meeting in Tel Aviv on May 5 and 6, Diamond Intelligence reports.

In addition to Kimberley Process Chair Ambassador Welile Nhlapo and European Commission Service for Foreign Policy Instruments Head Tung-Lai Margue, the conference will host Zimbabwe Minister of Mining and Mining Development Obert Mpofu, South African Minister of Mineral Resources Susan Shabangu and United States Assistant Secretary of State Jose Fernandez.

WDC president Eli Izhakoff noted that the presence of ministers, especially those from African countries where rough diamonds are mined, is of great importance, because diamond industry agreements must result from constructive engagement, according to Diamond Intelligence.
