According to iAbrasive news, Rollomatic will debut the LaserSmart laser cutting and ablation machine, intended to enable cost-effective, high-quality production of high-performance polycrystalline diamond (PCD), cubic boron nitride (CBN) and chemical vapor-deposited (CVD) cutting tools.

According to the company, laser cutting achieves a fine cutting edge with a quality surface finish by slicing through the crystal and leaving a portion of the crystal in the matrix, producing a sharp cutting edge without pulling out crystals, unlike conventional grinding or EDM processes. Linear technology on the linear and rotary axes provides accurate trajectories for complex cutting paths, and the machine's laser ablation capabilities enable optimizing tool geometries.
