Indonesia Replaces Australia as Top Alumina Supplier to China

Indonesia beat Australia as China’s top alumina supplier in September, customs data showed.

Imports from Australia tumbled 67.3% month-on-month to 31,500 tonnes in September, but imports from Indonesia surged 191.1% month-on-month to 81,800 tonnes.

China’s alumina imports were 142,500 tonnes in September, up 10.7% from August, but down 62.3% from a year ago.

SMM expects China’s alumina imports to increase slightly in the future since imported alumina has regained price advantage after big gains of domestic alumina prices.
