HDAC (Hydrothermal Diamond-anvil Cell) is a high temperature and high pressure experimental equipments on the basis of Diamond-anvil Cell developed by I-Ming Chou and W. A. Bassett in Diamond in 1990. Later I-Ming Chou heavily promoted the technology and finally it was introduced to the world, and has got the extensive use and learning. In recent years, the technology of HDAC has achieved a lot of achievements in the field of geology and geochemistry. For example, it helps to observe and measure the high pressure phase of ice and melting point through hydrothermal diamond and Raman spectroscopy. The experiment has obtained the Raman spectra of different ice phase under high pressure and low temperature, and found a new high-pressure ice phase. The research results have been published in SCIENCE.

The latest HDAC (type V) structure mainly includes stainless steel cavity, ceramic base, the heating resistance wire, thermocouple, metal gasket and two diamonds on the anvil cells. When in lab, the samples are put inside the hole of metal gasket, and two diamonds are bonded on the metallic gasket, to form a closed samples cavity, and finally make sample cavity closed through rotary screw press. The winding resistance wire should enwind around the diamond base, and the thermocouple can be bonded on the side of diamond, to achieve the effect of heating and measuring temperature. The pure H2O should be used as a the pressure medium, and the stainless steel pieces, rhenium and iridium pills as  metal gasket of HDAC.

Compared with other traditional experimental equipments of high temperature and high pressure, the advantages of HDAC can include the following several aspects: A, It has a broad temperature range (-190~1000 ℃), and the pressure can reach to 6 GPa; B, Compared with traditional high temperature and high pressure experimental equipments, it has high safety coefficient; C, It is easy to load samples. After finishing one experiment, you do not have to open the sample chamber, and can change the density of H2O medium and  the next experiment sample pressure only by tightening or unscrewing compression screw; D, It can observe the change of the samples in situ and real-time image acquisition process, and also can make quantitative or  qualitative analysis on the samples by Raman, FTIR, synchrotron radiation X-ray and other microbeam techniques in situ. The above advantages make HDAC a broad application field.

Deep-sea Extreme Environment Simulation Laboratory has completed a complete set of Hydrothermal Diamond-anvil Cell high temperature and high pressure experimental platform construction work. Hydrothermal Diamond-anvil Cell experimental platform is mainly composed of HDAC, the temperature controller, optical microscope, digital camera, image real-time display, record devices and emission system and so on.
