According to the governor of State of New York, General Electric Company (GE) will lead over one hundred private enterprises by joint venture to form New York Power Electronics Manufacturing Alliance (NY-PEMC), aiming at developing the next generation of silicon carbide material and techniques. The total investment of the alliance will be more than 5 hundred million dollars.

The joint venture will be in charge of the newly established University of New York in Albany, College of Nano Science and Engineering (CNSE) as well as University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT). GE is responsible for technology R&D in nano technical center, targeting at 6-inch silicon carbide wafer with low cost and high performance.

All companies that participate in NY-PEMC can share the advanced 6-inch silicon carbide tools and standard technological process, based on which they can make improvements to prepare for cost-effective silicon carbide in bulk. The original intension of the alliance is to attract researchers and private enterprises with nano technological production equipment, and build a high-tech center in New York.

The State of New York governor says, "the cooperation will bring thousands of new job opportunities for northern state. Depending on the promise of our partners, we are facilitating New York's competitive force in world market and making it home to high-tech materials. The investment and cooperation will push human resource development in the future, create job opportunities and increase long-term investment of the State of New York.
