Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of Abrasives Industry

With the fast economic development in recent years, environmental problems become more and more urgent. Water pollution and air pollution are becoming more and more serious.

Under the background of increasingly serious environmental pollution situation, the 3rd Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of CPC puts forward the concept of "ecological civilization" for the first time, which makes the environmental protection to a high level of civilization. Establishing a complete system of ecological civilization system can help to realize “protecting the ecological environment through the system”. Strict environmental protection policy highlights the government determination to promote the adjustment of industrial structure upgrade.　

Abrasives industry that has been taken for energy intensive and highly polluting industry by the government and national environmental protection department. In terms of abrasives smelting, the domestic brown fused alumina has excess production capacity at present. With the implementation of the national energy conservation and emission reduction policy, which will focus on phasing out backward production capacity of alumina industry, shutting down part of the energy-consuming small and medium alumina enterprises, eliminating small power smelting furnace, and encouraging enterprises to do stronger and bigger.

"Protecting the ecological environment through the system" will bring major influence on abrasives products and other industries with excess capacity, which will lead to the environmental cost of overcapacity enterprises increased, and also may phase out some enterprises that can not meet the requirements of environmental protection.

At the same time, it needs not only to reduce pollution, but also to eliminate backward production capacity and promote the transformation and upgrading. And some industries with excess capacity are expected to follow this path in the future, and achieve sustainable development through environmental protection.
