Diamonds To Replace GPS? Scientists Believe The Gems Can Very Soon Predict Locations!

If scientists are to be believed, synthetic diamonds can one day render global positioning systems redundant and also make driverless cars a reality. If that doesn't make diamonds everybody's best friend, we don't know what will!

If scientists are to be believed, synthetic diamonds can one day render global positioning systems redundant and also make driverless cars a reality. If that doesn't make diamonds everybody's best friend, we don't know what will!

Element Six, an Oxfordshire-based company, is currently studying the properties of crystals that contain a gap within the diamond known as "nitrogen vacancy defect".

Diamonds can already detect vehicles passing at a distance of 300 metres. Researchers said that when grown in laboratories, red diamonds exhibit such sensitivity to magnetic waves that they can be very well used for predicting locations on earth by absorbing magnetic waves from the sun.

Scientists also believe that diamonds can also replace MRI sensors that are used in medicine to derive detailed images from the inside of a human body.

While this breakthrough may be decades away from getting realised, we can't help but imagine the future where diamonds may become a necessity we will all own!
