Resin-based diamond grinding wheel has good self-sharpening, high grinding efficiency and other advantages, so it is widely used for grinding ceramics, glasses, cemented carbide and other hard brittle materials. At present, more than 60% of the world's abrasive diamonds are used in the manufacture of resin-based diamond grinding wheel.

However, because the chemical stability of diamond is wonderful, diamond is characterized by inertia to acid, alkali, salt and other chemical reagents at room temperature. Therefore, the binding ability between resin and diamond grains is not ideal. The sesearch shows that there are about 70% of abrasive grains that don’t get full use when dry grinding hard alloy.

The common methods to deal with the situation, such as copper plating, nickel plating, can improve the wettability of resin and diamond grains, but it is mostly mechanical chimeric, and difficult to form chemical bonds, which also affects the sharpness of diamond grains, increases the power consumption in the process of grinding (about 10% ~ 20%). Abrasive diamonds are mostly synthetic diamonds, and in their synthesis process, high temperature and high pressure environment makes diamond crystals with many defects, containing COOH, OH, etc. Therefore, coupling agent can be used for surface treatment, to improve its wettability with resin.

The conclusion is as follows:

A, Using NaOH solution and silane coupling agent to deal with diamond abrasive, can make the wear rate of grinding wheel significantly reduced, and the grinding efficiency can basically remain unchanged. The method can improve the binding state of diamond and resin matrix, increase the holding force of resin matrix for diamond grains, make it not easy to fall off in the grinding process, and improve grinding ratio of grinding wheel.

B, The experimental results of 1# and 3# grinding wheel grinding ratio show that the pretreatment of the NaOH solution can enhance the coupling effect of coupling agent, and make the holding force of resin for abrasive grains further increased.

C, The experimental data show that all of grinding wheels’ grinding efficiency basically remain unchanged, and the process doesn't affect the sharpness of diamond grains.
