Russian state-owned diamond company Alrosa's diamond reserves were increased by almost 36 million carats over the course of the 2012 calendar year, Rough and Polished reports. Most of this increase was due to Alrosa's exploration of the Ebelyakh and Gusiny diamond placers.

Alrosa also purchased $1.72 billion in purchases on the year and made a decision at its executive committee meeting not to process small and medium rough diamonds at its Moscow facilities, but instead to delegate them to its operations at Orel and Barnaul.

Final figures for last year's production and revenue levels have not yet been released, but Alrosa is thought to have manufactured approximately 34.4 million carats of rough diamonds and have made $4.5 billion in revenues in 2012, according to Rough and Polished.
