Russian mining giant Alrosa has announced its diamond production figures for the first nine months of 2017, reporting a 6% rise to 29.5 million carats. Rough diamond sales amounted to $3.3 billion during the period. Polished diamond sales totaled $68.1 million.

Igor Sobolev, First Vice President of Alrosa, quoted in IDEX Online, “The company’s diamond production grew as a result of more active operations at alluvial deposits and strategic mining assets – the Udachny underground mine and Karpinskogo-1 pipe operated by Severalmaz. The company reaffirms its 2017 production plan for a total of 39.3 million carats”.

In Q3, Alrosa sold 7.5 million carats of diamonds, including 4.9 million carats of gem-quality diamonds at an average price of $169 per carat and 2.6 million carats of industrial diamonds at an average price of $9 per carat. Rough diamond sales amounted to $848 million. Polished diamond sales amounted to $13.2 million.
