Advanced Composite Materials LLC is expanding in Greenville County. The 6-year-old company’s $3 million investment will create up to 10 jobs. The company develops and manufactures specialty silicon carbide products and related composites.
Advanced Composite established its headquarters, research and development lab, and manufacturing facility in Greer in 2007 to manufacture silicon carbide microfibers for industrial ceramic applications, including microwaveable ceramic composites for the restaurant and food industries. The expansion is aimed at introducing a new class of larger silicon carbide fibers particularly suited to the energy sector, aerospace industry and users of coated metals.
Suitable for ceramic matrix composites, metal matrix composites and high-performance polymer coatings, the new products will carry the Si-Tuff brand.
Advanced Composite Materials President and CEO Tom Quantrille said the company’s technology has been embraced by its target markets, and “now the company must expand our production to address new market opportunities essential to achieving our long-term vision for growth.”
The company plans to reconfigure and upfit part of its manufacturing space to accommodate new equipment.
S.C. Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said such expansions “underscore the state’s business-friendly environment for innovative companies.”
