The History about China’s First Hinged Cubic Synthetic Diamond Press

In April, 1965, the Original National Mechanical Industry assigned a commission of testing synthetic diamond, and ask for the establishment of synthetic diamond testing site in China Abrasives & Grinding Research Institute-- a unit who is also responsible for the whole testing process, such raw material processing technology, product separation technology and the research on physical and chemical testing method. 

In August, 1965, the first hinged cubic synthetic diamond compressor named 6×6MN DS－023 was developed successfully, which is able to stand high temperature and high pressure. And three months later, another good news come out that synthetic diamond has been made by 6×6MN DS－023, which has been considered as a huge breakthrough in China. After being testing for half a year, the synthetic techniques were proved to be stable. 

It was reported synthetic diamond production in China had reached 10,000 karats in 1966. In October of the same year, our country’s first synthetic diamond base was set up in Guiyang’s suburb, and China Abrasives & Grinding Research Institute would provide a full range of process designs and technical data for the production. In addition, they also took the responsibility of personnel training. The creation of hinged cubic synthetic diamond compressor marked the beginning of industrial production for China’s synthetic diamond. 

The photo showed below was the first compressor, which was created in 1965 and had worked for 30 years. Now the machine was displayed in China Abrasives & Grinding Research Institute.
