Cup wheels with segmented or 'Turbo' resin-bonded diamond bands are used primarily on straight-line and shape bevelling machines for finishing prior to polishing with cerium oxide and synthetic felt. Grit selection is generally between 325-800 (D54 to D20 FEPA Norm). The number of grinding spindles available determines the finish of the glass prior to polishing and therefore the linear speeds possible. Control of heat generated during finishing with resin diamonds is critical and is improved by using slotted resin segments to distribute the coolant more effectively.
