The brown alundum adopts bauxite and blind coal as the major raw materials, which are smelted in electric arc furnace in high temperature. The brown alundum is marked with high toughness. The major chemical compositions are AL2O3, TiO2 and small amounts of SiO2 and Fe2O3. The mircohardness reaches HV1800-2200; toughness is higher than SiC. The grinding tools made with this material are fit for grinding metals that have high tensile strengths such as steel materials, forgeable iron, hard bronze, etc. It may also be used for manufacturing high-grade fire-resistant materials.
