For use with a rubber-base ring in a tripod and suction-cup style drilling machine. A suitable coolant or even water can be used to keep drill and glass cool. Never apply too much pressure. Sintered diamond core drill bits are the most economical, drilling thousands of holes at just pennies per hole. Typical drill life is 2,000 - 5,000 holes in ¼" glass. Sintered diamond core drill bits are manufactured by bonding a mixture of diamond and a bronze matrix to the core of the drill using heat and pressure to form a ring. Diamonds are horizontally embedded in this bond and the balance sticks out, forming numerous cutting edges. When the drill becomes dull, the drill may be sharpened by drilling into a wet dressing stone. Drill briskly into the stone, creating a ring about 1/8" to ¼" deep. Move stone slightly and repeat process one or two more times. The stone works by grinding away the bonding material, causing the dull diamonds to fall out, exposing new or sharp diamonds. Remember never to drill though the stone. Sharpen drill only when necessary. Some drills have more brittle bonds and may break down naturally, negating the need to be sharpened.
