Magnesia Grinding Wheels

Magnesia Grinding wheel consists of the following ingredients; inorganic bond of

Magnesia, which is called “O (Oxychloride)” bond in the USA and Japan, and “MG

(Magnesia)” bond in the EU; abrasive powder including magnesia, alumina, silicone

carbide, and silicone nitride; and miscellaneous ingredients. These ingredients are then

kneaded with magnesium chloride solution, and poured into metal mold for hardening at

room temperature

Types of Magnesia Grinding Wheels

- NUT TYPE : A nut is inserted inside of the wheel for installation by connection with the nut shape plate.

- Flange Type : A Flange is fused with the grinding wheel that requires no nut shape plates for installation.

Property of DISC type grinding wheels

- Manufacture of springs for absorbing vibration of strain to avoid shock or dust.

(Ex : Elevators, Locomotives, Automobiles, Aeroplanes, Ships)

- Springs that absorb energy for power source (Ex : Machinary, Clocks, Camera, Toys, Gun Triggers)

Types of OT Grinder wheels

- RING TYPE : Chamfered on unused part of the grinder, the Ring Type grinding wheels can be installed

  to the circular plate that fits into the chamfer.

- Nut Ring Type : Nut Ring Type wheels have nuts inserted into the unused part of the wheels that

  fit with the nut type plate for installation.

- Flat Type : Bushings are inserted to the interior of the grinding wheels for easy installation.

- Knives (Fruit knives, fillet knives, mincing knives, potato knives, etc.)

- Scissors (Tailor’s shears, pruning shears, styling scissors, etc.)

- Miscellaneous (Syringe needles, saws, working tools, etc.)

Property and Characteristics

The major characteristics of the magnesia bond is that it produces minor heat

during the grinding process, which prevents denaturing of work pieces,

shortens grinding time, and enables heavy grinding. The wheel, therefore,

is suitable not only for grinding hard materials like stainless steel or other

special steels, but also for coarse, heavy, or fine grinding granites, glass, pottery,

and other kinds of stone. Since the grinder wheel is artificial, its grinding

quality is stable and easily adjustable at the same time, raising the quality of ground work pieces.

3. Usage of Grinding Oil

→ Consider the effect of sodium on the work piece during wet grinding process.

4. Characteristics of work pieces (material or hardness, etc.)

5. Characteristics of grinding wheels (materials, grains, hardness, shape, and size), and its estimated result 

6. The wheel is NOT resistant to shock. Please be cautious in massive grinding and maintenance.
