Polycrystalline synthetic diamond, precision size range

DP polycrystalline diamond powder is distinguished for its outstanding performance and reproducibility in application. DP diamond has the highest Performance Index rating of all diamond types. DP polycrystalline diamond is available in precision-graded sizes as diamond powder, as ready-to-use diamond slurry and as Liquid Diamond GAF.

Product properties

Particle strength The high toughness of polycrystalline diamond tolerates three times higher operating pressures than monocrystalline diamond. This allows for significantly higher material removal rates compared to other diamond types.

Rough particle surface The micro-structured, rough particle surface provides numerous contact points between diamond particles and the work piece. This feature ensures high material removal rates even in processes with low specific pressure, such as polishing processes on soft cloths or pads.

Self-sharpening During the lapping process, the applied pressure causes single crystallite grains to break away from the particle. Fracturing exposes new, sharp cutting edges. This self-sharpening of the particle allows for continuously high abrasion rates.

Precision size range A narrow particle size distribution maximizes the amount of particles of the same size while fine and coarse particles are minimized. Combined with a clearly defined upper size limit, this feature allows for both high process reproducibility and superior results in surface quality.

Narrow tolerance The narrow tolerances in particle size distribution guarantee consistent lot-to-lot performance in the application.

Purity Proprietary cleaning processes guarantee superior standards of product purity.

Synthesis Polycrystalline diamond is formed by detonation synthesis. The ultra-short synthesis time yields diamond particles with a polycrystalline structure. Each diamond particle consists of countless primary crystals of approximately twenty nanometers in size. The rough particle surface and the high particle strength of polycrystalline diamond are characteristic features of polycrystalline diamond synthesis. Proprietary shaping and cleaning processes guarantee a uniform, blocky particle shape and a controlled, superior product purity. 

Applications DP diamond is used in lapping and polishing applications with most demanding requirements on performance and consistency. Typical applications include lapping and polishing of sapphire, synthetic gemstones, ceramics, tungsten carbide, soft and hard metals and composite materials.
